Prior to the turn of the 20th century the Grand Rapids Police Department had been using what was known as the Bertillon Identification System to identify individuals. An apprehended person would have measurements taken, such as of their length of limbs and the shape of their head. Shortly after the turn of the century fingerprints began to be used. The cards here are the cards in the Grand Rapids Police Department collection that had mugshots attached. They are separated by years and organized alphabetically by last name.
