City Social Center Dining and Sleeping Facilities

The photo depicts the dining and sleeping facilities at the City Social Center, located at 58 Commerce Ave. SW. The dining tables and benches are full. Men from all walks of life and all ages are seated eating, while others are seated or standing while waiting for the next available table vacancy. Waiters / servers are stationed at each table. While the men are predominantly white, there are at least six African American men in the photo.

Bunk beds with mattresses share the same space as the diners. On beds, and above in the former church choir loft, luggage, men's hats, and dress suits on hangers are visible. The sign above the radio reads, "WOOD".
